How to choose a doctor stool with a backrest

Perch Chairs and Stools' doctor stools with a backrest (exam stools with back) come with a Basic or Ergonomic back, round padded seats 17 in. across, seat heights from 18 to 36 in. and a 300 lb capacity. Pick a height class

Match the class to your work surface. Heights run from the floor to the top of the seat. Ranges vary by stool.

  • Desk Height, 18–24.25 in.: desks and tables.
  • Medium Bench Height, 20.75–29.75 in.: benches and counters. A foot ring is optional.
  • High Bench Height, 25–36 in.: taller benches and counters. A foot ring is required.

The round tube base stool has a fixed foot ring and sits higher: Desk Height 21–26.25 in. with caps, 23–28.25 in. with casters; Medium Bench Height 23.5–31 in. with caps, 25.5–33 in. with casters.

Seat, back and options

  • Seats 3.5 in. thick, with polyurethane foam.
  • Basic Exam Stools: a back 16 in. wide and 10 in. high that adjusts in height and depth.
  • Ergonomic Exam Stools: a back 16.5 in. wide and 11.5 in. high with a locking back tilt, plus optional seat tilt (8° forward, 3° back).
  • Easy-to-clean vinyl with a stain-resistant finish (9 colors) or 100% olefin fabric (5 colors).
  • Self-Braking Casters for hard and carpeted floors, or non-marring glides, no wheels; chrome-hooded casters on chrome stools; caps or Self-Braking Casters on the round tube base.
  • 300 lb capacity on every stool.

Why does the round tube base doctor stool list two heights?

On a round tube base, casters sit 2 in. higher than caps. At Desk Height the stool runs 21–26.25 in. with caps or 23–28.25 in. with casters; at Medium Bench Height, 23.5–31 in. with caps or 25.5–33 in. with casters.
